Crypto paper trading: what it is and how to practice properly
Crypto paper trading is placing simulated trades with virtual money on live market prices. You practice entries, exits, position sizing and risk management without risking real capital. SIMMENT gives every account 10,000 virtual USDT and runs stops, take-profit ladders and liquidations exactly as a real perpetual desk would, on live Binance prices.
What paper trading actually simulates
A paper desk mirrors the mechanics of a real exchange: you pick a pair, a side (long or short), a size, optional leverage, and the desk fills you at the live price. From that moment the position has a mark price, an unrealized P&L, a liquidation level, and any stop or take-profit orders you attached. Prices are real; the money is not.
What it teaches well: reading a chart under time pressure, sizing a position relative to your balance, placing a stop you can live with, and seeing how a take-profit ladder changes the outcome of the same idea. What it cannot teach: the emotional weight of real losses, slippage on thin books, and funding costs, which are usually absent or simplified.
How SIMMENT runs the simulation
Each account owns an isolated ledger with 10,000 virtual USDT. Market and limit orders fill on live Binance prints. Leverage is virtual (1x to 125x) and the liquidation price is computed the way an isolated-margin perpetual would: the position closes when the loss eats the margin down to the maintenance requirement. Every auto position ships with an ATR-based stop (1.5x the 1h ATR 14, clamped to 1-3% of price, that distance is one R) and targets at 1R (closes 25%), 2R (closes 25%) and 3.5R (closes the remaining half). After TP1 the stop snaps to entry and a trailing stop follows the move.
Position management runs on the server: a worker prices every open position from Binance every 20 seconds, so stops and targets keep working when your browser is closed. Market opens, closes and marks all use the server's own Binance print, never a price sent by the browser.
A practice routine that transfers to real markets
Trade one idea per session and write down why you entered before you enter. Size every position so a full stop costs the same fraction of the balance, for example 1% to 2%. Let the take-profit ladder do its job instead of closing early. Review the history tab weekly: win rate, average win versus average loss, and which exit type (stop, break-even, TP1/2/3) dominates. If the average loss is bigger than the average win, the stop is too wide or the targets too close.
Treat the auto desk as a study partner, not a signal service. Watch when it opens, why the setup score said BUY or SELL, and how the exits played out. Every rule the engine follows and its live simulated track record are published on the engine page. The goal of paper trading is a repeatable process, not a big virtual balance.
Quick answers
Is paper trading free on SIMMENT?
Yes. The web desk and the iOS app are free. There are no deposits, withdrawals or paid tiers for the paper desk.
Does paper trading use real prices?
Yes. Fills, marks, stops and liquidations use live Binance prices. Only the capital is virtual.
Can I reset my paper account?
Yes. Reset needs your password and returns the ledger to 10,000 virtual USDT; the trade history is cleared.
