Volume Bias: what the tile is measuring
Volume Bias is a 0 to 100% score built only from the last 20 candles on the chart: candles with 1.2x to 1.5x+ the average volume push the score up when they close green and down when they close red, with a small bonus for higher lows and a penalty for lower highs. Above roughly 60% reads BULLISH, below 40% BEARISH. Until 15 Sep 2026 this tile was labelled "Smart Money"; the calculation was the same and it never used positioning, large-print or liquidation data, so the name was wrong and has been corrected.
What it is, exactly
Take the last 20 candles. Compute the average volume. Start at 50. For each candle with more than 1.5x average volume add 3 x (volume ratio) if it closed up and subtract the same if it closed down; between 1.2x and 1.5x add or subtract 1.5. Add 5 if the last five lows are rising, subtract 5 if the last five highs are falling. Clamp to 0-100. That is the whole formula.
How to use it
It answers one narrow question: was the recent heavy-volume tape buying or selling? Read it next to price. Heavy-volume up-candles into resistance that fail to break it are a warning; heavy-volume down-candles that do not make new lows can mean selling is being absorbed.
Pitfalls
It knows nothing about who traded. A single large candle dominates the score for 20 bars. On 1m and 5m charts it flips constantly; on 4h and 1d it is steadier but slow.
How the SIMMENT desk uses it
BULLISH adds one buy vote and BEARISH one sell vote in the setup filter. The gauge never opens a position by itself.
Quick answers
Is this a prediction?
No. It summarises the last 20 candles. It says nothing about the next one.
Why was it renamed?
An independent audit on 15 Sep 2026 found the tile was labelled Smart Money and described as using order flow and positioning data it never used. The label and this page now describe the real formula.
